The KICKER (and the Circuit Trainer)
The KICKER is designed to work both the front and back of the hip joint at once, just as flutter kick does. This is far superior to using weights on the ankles or exercising one leg at a time because it’s faster and requires movement of both legs. This video shows a real workout. These swimmers are timed for 100 flutter kick every two weeks or so and they can tell you the KICKER works! You can see for yourself why we recommend it for swimmers at all levels, triathletes, and even people in other sports like soccer and track.
There are only two exercise machines that improve this motion at both sides at once. The other one is ours too! It’s isokinetics on the adjustable bar on our swim bench (shown also on this site and on the demo DVD you can get just for the cost of shipping).
Works for both flutter kick and dolphin kick, possibly the most important motions necessary to optimize competitive swimming propulsion. Easy adjustment shown here is actually easier with individual Slastics that some with the KICKER. Slastics are far safer bands covered with comfortable cloth. We recommend a kickboard placed under the KICKER just in case. These are advanced athletes but even they slip once in a while.
