Training is specific. The flutter kick must be resisted on both sides of the stroke at once in order to improve the real motion. So we made toe straps to include your ankle joint. We’ve also found the dorsi flexion helps solve problems runners have with shin splints. And wait until you try full speed whip kick with full hip and ankle rotation. Ours is the only safe way.

Contralateral

Endurance athletes need balance in their joints. Many people perform reverse rotation with rubber tubing or leg curls with weights or weights on pulleys. But tubing increases resistance as you get farther from the origin never actually being the right resistance. And weights can’t be done fast and safety. Rotation

We placed the rotation in the front quadrant of your swim stroke so you can pull exactly the way you are supposed to. Look down into the mirror first to make sure you have the right motion while under stress. Then look at the computerized readout to see your power. Still not sure? Use our movies on your iPod or phone to compare and improve. The point is that triathletes need to build the muscles to rotate and no amount of stroke work is going to do what the muscles aren’t strong enough to do. One Problem We Solve

Flat benches such as the one in this video are good fitness machines. But notice that not once, but on EVERY stroke, the elbow is dropped and the shoulders risk possible impingement. This is certainly not good freestyle. To be fair, you’ll see the same flat motions on our bench before we rotated, patented, and produced the rotation.

Another Problem we Solve

Other benches seem to focus just on freestyle and one size of swimmer. Their front pulleys are narrow and can’t be adjusted. If you are going to get strong pulling inward in breast and fly and whip kick, you must pull from out to in. We made our pulleys adjustable from a few inches to over six feet. Watch the best butterfliers and breaststrokers to see how important this is.

What about tubing?

Tubing has its vale. We love and sell Slasitx covered tubing for safety reasons and because it’s not easy to have twenty or more swim benches. But tubing isn’t the way your body works. Tubing is always much easier to pull at the beginning than the end. Our isokinetics accommodate to every effort you make and also give you feedback through the entire range of motion from early vertical forearm to backsweep. You can work safely at full speed with our isokinetics, not having to worry about your joints being snapped back. Tubing has a place in our circuit but a swim bench is only a swim bench if it accommodates continuously -- just like swimming.

Why not just swim?

We agree with this -- to swim fast you need to swim fast. But there are millions of variable movements in swimming. The bench measures each and every stroke movement. At the same time you can see your stroke in our mirror, see the ideal stroke in your iPod with our movies, see your power one each arm or leg in our digital readout and feel the pressure as well as hear a coach! As with all the thousands of international Olympians over the last 41 years we’ve been making isokinetic swim benches, we believe there is no better way to get feedback and build swimming power -- unless you already have and maintain a perfect stroke. It’s fun too! And, when you get back in the water, you have a great sense of pressure and accelration because you’ve been working out at maximum resistance and full speed with progressive measurement of success! That’s not only science, it’s cool! Oh, and you can experience great improvements in just a few minutes of all out effort a day because we train the muscles as well as neural firing at the right speeds and angles.

Mutiple swimmers or a circuit?

From quick release pulleys to front and top mounted Minigyms you can get three to four people on the bench at once. When you see our free DVD you will be amazed how comprehensive we are.

What about all these people talking about “functional” Exercises?

We’d have to agree. Isolating movements is only one part of a full fitness program. But most of the “functional” gurus can’t swim very well and it’s easy to tell. During the general fitness and strength phase of training, med balls and exercises bench press and push ups and big balls are great. But there comes a time when you must exercise at specific angles, speed, and resistance in order to achieve the results you want. That’s where the football fitness guys really drop off. Swimmer rarely push anyone away or run. When we lunge, it’s at full speed. Squats are not perfectly related to whip kick.

That all said, we do functional too. Notice how the swimmer below has to hold her core stable as she performs a bench press at maximum resistance and speed. We have a standing fluter kick down without holding anything. We have one of the only dorsiflexion exercises we have ever seen, a movement we believe is essential to every swimmer. We even made a special toe strap to perform it with isokinetics. Should you still do weights? Yes. But be smart. Measaure the joint balance using your swim bench or your Leaper. Be careful with your plyometrics on our Plyotramp or med balls or jumping. And if you really want to be fast, you need to exercise at safely race speed and accommodating resistance at the perfect angles with isokinetics.

What else besides isokinetics do you sell and recommend?

We do believe there is a place in certain training cycles for like weights, tubing, plyometrics. We beleive our functional exercises are actually better than most done by general fitness professionals, but there is a place for many body weight exercises in early season. We encourqage coaches and swimmers to non-swimming motions as specific or balancing as possible given our unique sport and given our hhuge advantage of training aerobically in the water. Isokinetics aren’t associated with soreness as the exercises which require eccentric contraction, so we recommend doing these other exercises in early parts of training cycles. The following are just example of some of our newest inventions or great products we sell invented by other people. The KICKER is ours and solves the riddle of making both parts of the joint work to produce a powerful flutter and dolphin kick. Our SWEEPER works both the insweep and outsweep (and contra-lateral balancing shoulder muscles) needed in swimming. The Plyotramp can be adjusted for any angle and we recommend a wide array of med balls to develop maximum core and arm power as well as endurance when worked fast at short range. It can also be used to practice starts and jumps. We show all these and many more in our DVD and other places on this website.
